NEW YORK—New York LaGuardia Airport Marriott, located adjacent to the historic airfield, has completed a six-month, $30 million, full-scale property renovation including 443 guestrooms and suites, the property’s exclusive MClub lounge, 15,000 square-feet of meeting space, and 19,000 square feet of public spaces, including the newly opened Ditmars Bar and Grill. The transformation draws its inspiration from the eclectic, multi-national culinary, arts and cultural scene that comprises the surrounding Queens community, known as the “World’s Borough.”

New York LaGuardia Airport Marriott’s new elevated look and feel, imagined by SoHo-based luxury hospitality design firm Krause Sawyer, was inspired by the tagline “Global. Local. Distinctive.” which celebrates Queens’ unique marriage of over 120 nationalities and cultures and is reflected in the use of dynamic patterns, textiles, colors and art from all over the world. The renovation coincides with a reinvention of the 80-year old LaGuardia airport and surrounding areas which includes a new, modern look, as well as improved access to the facility.

Upon arrival, guests are welcomed by a completely reconfigured lobby and reception area featuring a mix of textures, details and patterns in a vibrant color palette. The communal areas feature soft leather chairs and wooden benches providing an ideal space for impromptu corporate gatherings or intimate fly-in, fly-out meetings. The seating areas are enhanced by unique metalwork, textile art and rugs, while the greeting desks are framed by a lit wall inspired by traditional Greek ionic columns and Chinese-inspired light fixtures.

In addition to the reception area, guests will enjoy a fully-redesigned Great Room, dedicated to work or relaxation in a communal environment, as well as Marriott’s exclusive MClub, an area reserved for Elite and Club paying members to work or recharge with perks including a range of complimentary food and beverage options such as hot breakfast, hors d’oeuvres, and premium beverages such as espresso and evening libations. Architectural elements woven throughout the spaces include butcher block end cut wood tiles and hand carved metal screens suggestive of metal work throughout the ages. An elaborate art wall features woven works, capturing the essence of the historical craft, as well as a clean, contemporary bar of eco terrazzo stone slabs.
The MClub introduces custom tilework, and ceramic sculpture, surrounded by graphic patterns in African mudcloth and indigenous textiles, with hand-carved and hand-painted printing blocks lining the walls of the bar.

In addition to common areas, the hotel’s 15,000 square feet of meeting spaces were revamped with patterned carpets, inspired by lacework and embroidery and metal light fixtures evoking hand-crafted metals and jewelry, with fiber art lining the walls.
Guests will find a peaceful, comfortable and stylish respite in each of New York Marriott LaGuardia’s newly designed guestrooms and suites. The design reflects a muted palette of natural tones, and thoughtful yet functional interiors, featuring eye-catching textiles and contrasting organic wood touches.

Finally, the property celebrates the opening of the all new signature Ditmar’s Bar and Grill, named after the boulevard on which the hotel resides and a nod to one of New York city’s earliest settlers. The three-meal restaurant features a menu of modern American fare with regional influences, as well as an extensive wine list and beer selection including eight draft beer varieties. Menu highlights include a selection of “quick bites” including Avocado Toast with salsa fresca and cilantro crème, and Cuban Spring Rolls served with mustard dipping sauce; “Shareable” items such as Lobster Grilled Cheese, Buffalo Shrimp Flatbread Pizza, and Open-face Pulled Pork Sliders; and entrees that include Pan Seared Salmon with quinoa barley pilaf and avocado cream sauce, and a classic Filet Mignon with bordelaise sauce, herb steak butter, and fingerling potatoes. The restaurant also features several television screens for viewing events at nearby Citifield and the Arthur Ashe tennis center. Ditmars Bar and Grill is open from 6:30 am to 1 am, seven days a week.

“We knew this hotel had immense potential to benefit from our repositioning strategy, and we believe it is the best hotel at LaGuardia airport and maybe the best at any airport in New York City,” said Marc Gordon, Principal of Rubicon. “The property has been completely transformed and is effectively a new hotel that should appeal to business and leisure travelers and the community seeking a stylish experience in a great location. Ditmars Bar & Grill adds a spectacular destination dining option which aligns with our vision for this property.”

New York LaGuardia Airport Marriott is owned and asset managed by Rubicon Companies under licensed agreement with Marriott International and management agreement with Aimbridge Hospitality, the nation’s largest third party management company.
